Proenza Schouler/proʊˌɛnzəˈskuːlər/ is a women's wear and accessories brand founded in 2002 by designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Based in New York City, Proenza Schouler is derived from maiden names of the two designers' mothers: Proenza is the maiden name of Hernandez's mother, and Schouler is the maiden name of McCollough's mother.[1]
History[edit]
McCollough and Hernandez met while studying at Parsons School of Design, collaborating on their senior thesis, which would eventually become their first collection as Proenza Schouler. The collection was bought in its entirety by Barneys New York.[citation needed] In 2008, Proenza Schouler introduced its first shoe collection, licensed through Giuseppe Zanotti, Vicini SpA. Later that year, Proenza Schouler launched its first handbag, the PS1, a satchel that has become the brand’s signature. In 2012, Proenza Schouler signed a new license agreement with Onward Luxury Group to produce their footwear collections. The brand expanded into swimwear in 2014 when they signed a licensing agreement with Swimwear Anywhere to produce and distribute swimwear. In June 2015, Proenza Schouler signed a licensing agreement with L’Oréal for the development and creation of fine fragrances.[2][3][4]
In 2017, Proenza Schouler announced their exit from the traditional ready-to-wear calendar to align with the couture calendar. This switch changed the location of their runway shows from New York to Paris, and merged their main and pre-collections, only showing twice a year.[5]
In November 2017 the brand launched a 'sister' collection of casual basics like denim and T-shirts called White Label.[6]
Investors[edit]
In 2007, the Valentino Fashion Group bought a 45% stake in Proenza Schouler. In 2011, Proenza Schouler announced a partnership with a group of investors, including Andrew Rosen, and John Howard. Castanea Partners acquired a minority interest in the brand, appointing Judd Crane as CEO in the process, in 2015.[7][8][9]
In the last quarter of 2018, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez together with the help of private investors have bought back their company's shares from Castanea Partners reclaiming full ownership of the label.[10][11]
Collaborations[edit]
Proenza Schouler launched its first collaboration in 2010, when they created an exclusive collection of hand painted denim with J Brand. In the same year, they collaborated with filmmaker Harmony Korine on their first original video, Act Da Fool, featuring the Fall 2010 collection. In 2013, Proenza Schouler celebrated their 10th anniversary by releasing a limited reissue of its Fall 2003 collection for Barney’s New York. The following year, in 2014, the designers collaborated with MAC Cosmetics on a limited-edition makeup collection. The same year, the brand partnered with Parisian department store Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche for a capsule collection and exhibition. The exhibit allowed consumers to explore the world of Proenza Schouler through a display of 80 looks from past runway collections, a documentary about the brand, and an interactive 3-D cub installation. The following year, they collaborated with Harley Weir and Jen Brill on an original video, Legs Are Not Doors, featuring the 2015 Spring Collection. Proenza Schouler once again collaborated with Harley Weir and Jen Brill in 2016 on their second original video together, PS I Love You (Ithigi Lithigove Yithigou), featuring the Pre-Fall 2016 collection.[12][13][14][15][16][17]
Awards and honors[edit]
Awarded with the inaugural CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award in 2004. Proenza Schouler has been honored with a total of five CFDA awards. In 2003, they were awarded with the Swarovski Award for Ready-to-Wear, and in 2009 they were honored with the Accessory Designer of the Year Award. In addition, they have been awarded the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award three times in 2007, 2011, and 2013. In 2014, they won the Designer of the Year award at the Accessories Council’s annual ACE awards. MAC x Proenza Schouler Collection Mangrove Lipstick Review
By Contributor: Samannita
A girl can’t have enough red lipsticks..I am a good example if you want proof! Yes after having lots of pinks and browns in my lipstick stash now it’s turn for red. The more red lipsticks I buy..the more addicted I get. I am buying different types of red and this time I got Mangrove from the MAC Cosmetics Proenza Schouler collection which includes four shades of lipsticks: Woodrose, Primrose, Pinkfringe and Mangrove. I found only Mangrove appealing. This collection was released all over the world (I guess) but in India it was released only in a few cities and Delhi is one of them along with Mumbai but in Kolkata these was never launched.
MAC Claims: For Summer 2014, MAC decided to team up with the womenswear and accessories brand Proenza Schouler. A stylish label based in New York and this Summer MAC and their fashion-label-collab came up with a bright and playful collection, wrapped in luscious ombre-chrome packaging which is named as MAC Proenza Schouler collection.
My Review:
The ombre packaging actually tempted me a lot to get this atleast one product from the Proenza Schouler Collection. And it is never difficult to get a LE when you have a friend like Shivani who is as crazy about makeup as I am so things happen very easily and smoothly and the most amazing part is she was on a holiday at the time the collection got launched but after coming back I don’t know how she magically managed to get me my most wanted lipstick – Mangrove!
Coming to the packaging I fiund Proenza Schouler to be the most attractive after the Archie’s collection. The ombre effect of purple, yellow and green and the blush are two things that attracted me the most. I was planning to buy the blush ombre too but the review of the blush was not so good so I had to skip it and stick to the lipstick only.
MAC Magrove can be described as matte red lipstick with hints of orange in it. The shade instantly brightens up my face and goes nicely with subtle makeup. The lipstick will suit fair to medium Indian skin tones mostly but if you are confident enough then I think you would be able to carry it.
The texture of the lipstick is matte but not drying like Ruby woo retro kind of matte. It easily glides on my lips without any effort of tugging and pulling of lips. The lipstick being matte might be drying after a couple of hours so properly exfoliated lips are ideal else it will look very uneven on dry lips.
The lipstick is as beautiful as its scent! I love MAC mostly because of its signature scent which is vanilla and it hardly irritates my sensitive nose. The lipstick transfers a bit for the first few hours on cups and glasses but not insanely and stays put for 6-7 hours on my lips nicely.
Swatches in natural light
My lip swatches with it
And here is how it looks on me
So here are the Pros of MAC Mangrove Proenza Schouler Lipstick:
- Awesome packaging.
- Nice shade.
- Matte finish which I just love.
- Vanilla scent of the lipstick.
- Staying power is 6-7 hours.
- No fading till 6 hours.
- No tugging or pulling of the lips while applying lipstick
Cons of MAC Proenza Schouler Mangrove Lipstick:
- Definitely one and only..limited edition.
Price: Rs.1350 (MAC has again increased the prices of the regular line so I bet the limited editions with this kind of nice packaging will be priced insanely)
Availability: Limited edition so already out of stock everywhere I guess.

VNA Rating: 4.5/5

My final verdict: The lipstick is a really nice shade but it is quite dupeable. You can get dupe which are almost similar to this shade.
