Have upgraded to S1 v3 from v1 which I hadn't used for a long while. Now I'm going to be using v3 as my main DAW and am organizing my plugin folders, hence the question:
In the Mac version of S1, do the AU's seem to have better compatibility/stability versus VST or VST3? I'm wanting to stash away the unused plugin types so that I only am showing one format in my menu, otherwise the list will be too long. S1 doesn't do Expression does it, where I could use the VST3, or the other advantage with VST is perhaps writing MIDI from a plugin such as Nora.
Thank you!

In my experience, most people here will tell you they have better stability with VST. My experience has been the opposite. I use AU wherever possible and things have been very stable. I'm on a 2013 Black Mac Pro still running Mavericks. The one challenge there is that it seems AU cannot do more than stereo output, so if you need to run multiple outputs from Kontakt or similar, you will need the VST version.

i tend to use vst for exactly that reason. multi-out. Also, i've had a couple vst3 instruments cause me problems and had to use the vst2 versions of those. I think they were from Arturia's V-collection. one of them being Solaria and the other i think was their Matrix-V.
I think both VST and AU are pretty stable though..

Thanks! So you're are using mostly VST3, not 2.4? One thing I noticed that's strange is some of my plugins (like a few Waves for example) are only showing up as VST..the AU versions seem to have gone MIA although they are still in the components folder.

Waves only supports VST3 in Studio One as can be seen here: http://www.waves.com/support/tech-specs/supported-hosts
I for one have disabled AU support in Studio One and I'm using only VST 2.4 and VST 3 with Melodyne being my only VST 3 plug-in at the moment.
I'm not using many native plug-ins anymore anyway because I'm lucky enough to have the SCOPE DSP Platform with its synths, effects, mixers etc. (and also some hardware sound modules).
